Saving Asia’s Migratory Waterbirds - What We Can Do In Malaysia

Each year, hundreds of thousands of migratory waterbirds visit Malaysia’s coastal wetlands during the northern winter. Yet, wetlands such as mangroves and mudflats are increasingly impacted by the activities of man, and more needs to be done to protect them for future generations. Furthermore, the recent discovery of the Spoon-billed Sandpiper in Sarawak’s coast reminds us that there is still much to learn about the ecology and distribution of migratory waterbirds in Malaysia’s wetlands. At this Talk, Ding Li will contextualise the importance of Malaysia’s wetlands for migratory waterbirds at the flyway level and talk about what we can do to secure the future of wetlands for migratory birds and local people.
