Talk on Observations on Pollination of Orchids

You are invited to our upcoming public talk....

A Public Awareness Talk featuring the secret sex life of Malaysian orchids caught in the act on video and in photographs will be held at the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre at 3pm on Friday, 29 June 2012.

Be assured, the presentation will not be X-Rated, as the speaker, Ong Poh Teck will be talking about why orchids are so diverse in their shape, colour, size, and scent, and more importantly, how they pollinate.
Using orchids found in Peninsular Malaysia as references, Ong will talk about how orchids are largely dependent on their insect counterpart for reproduction in the wild, aside from a few orchid species which self-pollinate.
Ong Poh Teck, a research officer with the Forest Research Institute Malaysia, has been interested in orchid cultivation as a child. His fields of research include orchid taxonomy of Peninsular Malaysian orchids and pollination biology of local orchid species.
He is also the lead author of the recently published “Wild Orchids of Peninsular Malaysia”, which features many of his photographs.

Those interested in attending the talk can call Ha-Mim Marzuki or Asha Devi Kaushal at 082-610610 or send an email via biosar@sbc.org.my to register.  Entry to SBC and the talk is free.
